Adjusting output gain for Music Maker

Post by ElbyM »

I have a Music Maker shield playing midi from a file. Output is through a pair of little (about 1 inch in dia) 8ohm 1W speakers. I can barely hear anything, although the output from the headphone jack (through headphone) is plenty loud. Is there any way I can up the gain? Thanks.

Since you are using speakers I assume you have the amplified version of the shield.

You can use the +6dB or +12dB pads to increase amplification as described at the bottom of https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-mus ... er/pinouts, but read the caution there. You can also switch to 4 ohm speakers (lower resistance -> more current -> louder sound).

Thanks, Dave! I notice that the Adafruit_VS1053 library has an Adafruit_VS1053::setVolume method. Is this something that would be useful to me? If so, any tips on how I would use it (with SoftwareSerial, which I'm currently using to send MIDI). Thanks again.
