My kit came with 2 extra tiny capacitors that aren't in the parts list nor in any of the assembly photos. (Switches are absent, too, but I see a photo with one switch and I'm guessing the other switch is the reset.) I assume the capacitors are for debouncing the switches. I further assume that they are simply connected across the switch contacts. The silkscreen doesn't indicate the switch pins' functions so I can't tell where to solder on the capacitors. It looks, too, like the switches are double-pole and I don't know which pole is used.
Of course, I could be completely wrong and these capacitors should be soldered into C1 and C2 but those look a little remote from the switches.

Those are part of the proto-shield kit. Since it is a proto-shield, there is some flexibility in how it is assembled. See the guide here for an example of how to use the 'extra' parts.
