Music Maker Audio Jack

by PurpleMagician on Tue Mar 23, 2021 9:08 pm

I have been having an issue with the Music Maker Shield audio jack. The audio cable doesn’t appear to go fully into the jack. If I push it in and hold it the music plays but as soon as I let go the audio cable springs out a little and the music stops. I have tried several cables with the same result.

I was wondering if others have had this issue and if there was a solution.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Just to be sure, you're talking about this connector?

Anything unique about the audio jack being used? Or is it a fairly standard 1/8" jack like this?

Nothing unusual. I am using a standard 3.5mm aux cable. I have tried this with several cables. Same results. The connector pops out a few mm unless I am pushing it in.

OK, seems like some odd mechanical issue inside the connector. If you can't find a way to make it go away, then let's just replace it.

Send an email to support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread and your order number and they can send you a replacement Music Maker Shield.

Thank you for your help. As always, your responsiveness is greatly appreciated.
I live in Canada and purchase it from a local reseller. I guess I should deal with them?

If it's local as in you can drive there, then you could try that. That way you'd have a replacement right away. But if it was an online reseller, you can still email support and they can help you with specific options.
