Brushless motor--built in driver using Adrafruit Motor Shiel

I'm hoping to add a small brushless motor with following specs using motor shield v2.3 and arduino. I'm trying to avoid using an ESC and LIPO battery to run. Would it be possible to run the motor through PWM and powered through the motor shield?

Hard to say without more detailed specs.

"Yellow = Signal" - what are the input characteristics of this signal? What does it do that the direction and speed control do not?
"Blue = CW/CCW adjusting" - What is the voltage of the signal? What are the signal levels for CW and CCW?
"White = PWM Speed adjusting" - What is the voltage of the PWM signal? Is there a min or max acceptable frequency?
