Music Maker's SD card as a data logger

by eranbenjamin on Fri Apr 09, 2021 3:08 pm

Hi,
I have a music maker board (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1790).
I would like to use the SD card on the board as a logger.
Can I use the same code as in the data-logger shield (https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-data-logger-shield)?
If not - is there any other example/protocol I can use for having the SD card as a logger?

If the answer for both question is No, I would have to purchase the data-logger-shield (for having SD card's read/write capabilities), right?

@eranbenjamin,

It is possible you could get the music maker to work as a datalogger. I've seen an instant of it in the forums, but there are two issues:

1) This music maker was not designed for this so be prepared to deal with a lot of issues due to conflicts with the VS1053 on the same SPI bus.

2) This is pretty old hardware to invest development time into.

We have some sweet TFT, FeatherWings and SD card breakout boards that can work as loggers with a lot less effort. I would recommend using one of those over fighting with the MusicMaker.
