Wave Shield Voice Changer Issue

by OkFlamingo on Sun Apr 11, 2021 6:43 pm

I purchased no too long ago a wave shield kit in order to make a voice changer and I followed a YouTube tutorial on how to do it. Eventually, after uploading the adavoice code and plugging in my speakers/power all I got coming out of them was static. I thought I soldered on the potentiometer wrong, but even after unsoldering it this static was still being played out of my speakers. Hopefully there is an answer to this? Also, I can't upload any image of my board because I can't get the file size to be no more than 1 MB.

Most photo applications support re-sizing images. If yours does not, there are many free on-line photo resizing web sites. 800x600 jpegs usually work well.

If you post some photos of your build we can try to spot the problem.

We can't see in the photo. Please post the part number printed on IC2.

Also, run the "CardInfo" example from the SD library and post the results here.

Alright I took a better picture for the IC2,but I am unsure why I have to run the "CardInfo" example from the SD library when I am not planning on using the SD card slot at all or am I misinterpreting what it means?

The part number is still not legible in your photo. Please write down the numbers printed on the chip and post them here.

And although the SD card is not used for the voice changer, it is the best way to verify that the shield is working properly before proceeding with the project.

As stated in the voice changer guide:
https://learn.adafruit.com/wave-shield- ... t-362812-8
We also very strongly recommend…no, make that require…that you work through the original Wave Shield tutorial before commencing with this project. It’s a good way to verify the core pieces are working before adding extra layers of complexity.

For the chip on IC2 its number is: MCP4921. Also, I tried running the "CardInfo" example where I followed the prompt given to me by formatting one of my unused SD cards and changed the chip select to 10 which was the pin for the shield and after uploading it/putting in my SD card the serial monitor wasn't showing any data ,so this might sound really obvious ,but do you know a possible reason why I wasn't able to get any data?

Good. That is the correct part.

Please post the output of the CardInfo program. That may have information about why it could not read the card.

Initializing SD card...Wiring is correct and a card is present.

Card type: SDHC
Could not find FAT16/FAT32 partition.
Make sure you've formatted the card

This was the data that I got from the serial monitor relating to the sd card although I am not sure why it says it's not formatted when I did prior to putting it in.

Make sure that it was correctly formatted for FAT32. Many operating system format utilities do not follow the standard, so we recommend the official SD Association formatter linked in the guide:

So you are still seeing the exact same message?
Card type: SDHC
Could not find FAT16/FAT32 partition.
Make sure you've formatted the card

The SD circuitry on the shield is working, otherwise it would not detect the card type.
It is unusual that it can detect the card type, but not the partition after formatting with the SD Association formatter.

Do you have a different card to try?
