Shield For Arduino UNO & 772 Display

by bigbob6242 on Mon Apr 19, 2021 8:36 pm

I have an UNO R3 and recently purchased and added an LCD Shield Kit w/ 16x2 Character Display - Only 2 pins used! Adafruit Item #772.

I quickly noted that I no longer have any access to any I/O pins on the UNO.

What is the best option (shield board) to allow me to use both the #772 LCD display with my UNO and still be able to connect other devices to unused I/O pins on the UNO?

This may be a very basic question, but I'm new to the UNO.

Thank you.
Bob

Hope you did not solder the kit yet....
Just add these pins instead:

If Adafruit reads this, please include those headers from now on :)
And otherwise, enjoy this little tool first:

The standard ones are easier to desolder if you cut the plastic off first.

Thanks for that info.

:( Sadly, yes I did solder it all together. Oh well, live an learn. (it would have been nice if this issue was mentioned in the LCD kit :)

We have stacking headers in the shop:

Sorry to post the Sparkfun ones. A search for "headers arduino" came with tons of results but not this.
With my request to include the headers I mean include them with the LCD shield instead of those male ones.

Thanks for the clarification blnkjns and adafruit_support_mike.

Will this Wingshield board work?
https://www.adafruit.com/product/196

I think this would allow me to place the 772 LCD display on top of this shield board and then connect to unused pins of the UNO via the screw terminal edge connectors. I assume this shield board will plug in to the top of UNO R3 below it?

Thanks - appreciate the help !

It is huge, but it will work. Desoldering is not THAT bad....

Thanks. I wasn't worried about the unsoldering (have a nice vac-pump system that unsolders like a breeze).

I thought this shield board offered me a nice place to build out a dual MOSFET (semi-high power) dual motor driver circuit. This is all just prototyping right now. Would ultimately design and build out our own PCB with an Atmel for this project after we get everything running as planned.

All my questions relate to my lack of understanding as to what hardware is out there so appreciate the help a lot.

Thank you.
