Motor Shield V2 with WIO Terminal

by DeviceDave on Tue Apr 20, 2021 12:10 pm

What are the correct pins to connect from the Wio Terminal to the Motor Shield V2 for servo and stepper control?

I currently have:
3V to WIO pin 1
5V to WIO pin 2
GND to WIO pin 6
GND to WIO pin 9
S1 to WIO pin 13
S2 to WIO pin 15
SDA to WIO pin 27
SCL to WIO pin 28
External 5V to the power block
NEMA 17 stepper to M3 and M4

I am running the StepperTest example code from the Adafruit Motor Shield V2 Library. I am getting no response from the stepper and the code seems to be severely lagging based on the serial monitor printouts. It seems that my wiring and the code running slow should be unrelated. The code eventually cycles through with out a motor response.

What stepper motor are you using?

To run a stepper, the shield just needs GND, 3.3v, SDA and SCL.

For use with 3.3v processors, you must configure the board for 3.3v logic levels. Find the set of 3 pads labeled "Logic". Cut the small trace between the center pad and 5v and add a jumper from 3.3v to the center.
