Motor Shield V2 + 2.8" Capacitive touch screen

Post by AshmanE »

I'm looking to do both motor control as well as use the 2.8" capacitive touch screen to allow for user input as to how to move the motors.

I've added stacking headers to the Motor Shield V2, but the screen doesn't seem to be working when stacked to the motor shield.

Is this not possible, or am I missing something?

Any help would be appreciated.

What functions of the screen are not working? Drawing? Capacitive Touch?

If you post some photos showing all of your soldering and connections we can try to spot the problem.

The backlight function on the screen is working, so I know it's getting power. However, it doesn't draw anything.

If I remove the V2 motor shield and put the screen directly onto the arduino mega, it draws fine.

I haven't gotten around to trying the touchscreen portion yet.

The soldering was just pass-through headers on the edges of the motor shield, and I did double-check to make sure that none of the pins were shorted, but I am happy to post a pic if you think that will help.

Are you using only one power supply for the mega, motor shield and touchscreen?

The display uses SPI for communication. Depending on what kind of Arduino processor you are using, you may need to install the 2x3 pin ICSP stacking headers on the motor shield to pass those signals.

The 3x2 header is probably the issue then. I've ordered a stacking header and we'll see if that fixes the problem.

Thank you very much for the informative responses, everyone!

The 3x2 header was it. Thank you for the quick and accurate troubleshooting there.

I likely would have made it there eventually, but you saved me a ton of time fumbling around with it.

Many thanks!
