ethernet shield questions

by mrnick1234567 on Sun Aug 03, 2008 5:40 pm

Hi, I'm thinking of getting Ladyada's Ethernet Shield but I had a few questions. I'd be really grateful if anyone can answer them for me...

a) I see there is an on board regulator on the shield to supply the 3.3v. My Arduino is powered by a 12v supply, will that cause a problem?

b) I want to use the device to scrape a web page that I will setup. My Arduino controls a 16x16 rgb led matrix and I want it to display things like the temperature or messages etc by reading the text on this page. I'm thinking I could probably use the cheaper $28 xport Direct for this as I don't need a web server. Does this sound sensible?

Cheers in advance

Nick

1. yup its fine, the 3.3v runs off of the 5v regulator
2. should be just fine. see the example code, it will not take long to cobble something together!
