Nice easy question on building the motorshield

by Orestes on Sat Aug 30, 2008 5:48 pm

Hi all,

I noticed ladyada put some big ol' heatsink pads under the L293Ds. Now, I like to use ic seats when I solder ICs into PCBs to make it easier to swap them out when I inevitably blow them. :D

Am I safe to use IC seats under the h-bridges, or should I solder them to the board to avoid overheating during operation?

Many thanks,

Orestes

it will be fine, the 4 gnd pins are the heat sink connectors, not the chip body itself

Many thanks, ladyada!

I've soldered it up and run a few quick multimeter tests on it, seems OK... just waiting for my lead acid battery and stepper motors to arrive in the post now!

:D
