Schematic for SIM reader?

Post by Johannes »

I dunno if I missed it, but where can I find the schematic of the nice & simple SIM card reader that was under the vice in Volume 01?
I've found some with USB support, but that is a bit overkill imho...

Thanks!

Ah I missed it big time... Hopefully I will make one soon... I just need to steal the SIM card holder from a old-school phone... (if they even have one?)

Thanks.

And good work on Volume 01, I can't wait for 02 :D

I fail to see how usb is overkill, usb only runs on 5volts while the other type requires 10volts, wouldn't USB make the schematic a bit easier?

My two bits?
USB for this SIM reader would be "overkill" on account that you won't use the reader often enough to justify the additional design work. Unless you intend to use it for some sort of production or commercial activity, then attaching it to your machine using a cable you can use for other stuff is cheaper for the designer and the end-user.
I wanted the USB thing myself, but brighter and calmer minds (coughLadyada) prevailed and I don't see a reason to incorporate USB into the SIM reader's design.
