I have been banging my head trying to figure out what the issue is with a couple of Xbees I ordered last month, and finally figured out that two of the three XBee Module - Series 1 - 1mW with Wire Antenna (XB24-AWI-001) that I purchased don't work (I only just got to the electronics part of my project in the past week).

I determined this when I took turns plugging each of the three into the Adafruit adapter I assembled. Only one of them worked.

I can only find the one of the three Xbees in XCTU. The green light on the adapter only blinks with the one that works. I have attached photos of the Xbee in the adapter using FDTI friend to connect to my Windows computer.

You really can't solder header pins that way. I think you've probably got some bad connections. You should be using right-angle header:

How is what I did different than the instructions on the adafruit page here?:

That is what I was following.

It gives a couple of choices, including to solder the header flat against the back of the adapter, so that it sticks out along the edge.

Huh. I've never seen it done that way before. But if it works...

Do you have a multimeter? Can you check the continuity on each of those pins?

Continuity is good. I purchased three Xbees from adafruit. One of the Xbees works fine with this setup. The other two never have. I am thinking that the Xbees themselves are bad.

We can try replacing them. Please email support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread for replacement XBees
