Adafruit Feather M0 Adalogger

by Herrx on Wed Apr 03, 2019 4:35 am

Hello guys!

I'm looking for a datalogger and I found the "Adafruit Feather M0 Adalogger" there is a microcontroller and a SD-Card Slot on board.
What I want to know is, is it possible to include a time stamp by the datalogs like it is possible with an RTC? I saw the board with the SD-Slot and the RTC-Battery but there is no microcontroller on board. I can connect an Li-Battery as a powersupply to the "Adafruit Feather M0 Adalogger" but works it like the RTC battery?

Thanks in Advance.

The Feather Adalogger boards do not have a built-in RTC. We do have RTC wings.

There are also WiFi and GPS options for a reference time-base.

Yes thanks for your hints.

I saw the the wing with the SD-Card and the RTC-Battery.

So it's not possible to use only the

and get a timestamp in my data logs? So the LI-Battery does not support ernergy like the RTC?

So I have to use one of your recommended wings when my logger is poweless sometimes and I'll want a right timestamp?

You can use the processor's system clock to generate a time-stamp. But you can expect significant drift over time - probably several minutes a day at least.

So the LI-Battery does not support ernergy like the RTC?

You can use a LiPo to provide continuous power. But as noted above, the system clock is not nearly as precise as the time-base in a dedicated RTC.

Ok so anyway I have to use 2 boards to realize my datalogger. How long is the lifetime of the RCT-Battery? Or how many hours/days can I bridge the the correkt time?

The DS3231 RTC has a timekeeping current of about 1uA.
A CR1220 coin cell has a capacity of about 37mAh.
So the battery should allow the RTC to keep time for around 37000 hours (more than 4 years).
