DS1307 on Beaglebone resetting time on lost power

by CollinswithanS on Mon Nov 18, 2019 12:03 pm

Hi, I'm working on a project that uses a Beaglebone Black to control various equipment and log data. This system is not connected to the internet, so I needed an RTC to keep the time on it. I'm using a DS1307 breakout board (part number 3296 on the adafruit site) to do so, but it is giving me some trouble.

When the system is powered off, the time resets to its initial time and data of January 1st, 2000 at 12am. It keeps time fine when the system is powered on, and is able to keep the time if the BBB itself is rebooted, as long as it stays plugged in. But when the entire system is powered off, it loses time.

The CR1220 battery is reading in the 3.2V range, and is inserted in the correct orientation. The I2C connections seem to be fine, as I'm able to read and write to the hwclock with no issues. I followed the adafruit guide for setup.

Does anyone have any ideas what the issue might be?
