You're very welcome, although I cannot take credit for discovering the ZVP2110A. Phil (PhilD13) suggested it to me in a different context, along with the N-FET equivalent, the ZVN2110A. After playing with those parts and reading the datasheets, I realized the P-FET would make an excellent substitute for the occasionally problematic Q3, but I'd also bet that Phil came to the same conclusion long before I did. ;-)

By the way, if your son would like to play with an alternative firmware, I'd be happy to send him a preprogrammed chip with my xmas-icetube. It's a drop in replacement for the microcontroller that came with the Adafruit kit, so no additional soldering is required. Just email me privately if interested.
