Ice tube clock kit | Q3 problem and ill-fitting bottom of ca

Post by kandizzy »

Hi there,

I bought an ice tube clock kit quite a long time ago and never assembled it. Last night, inspired by Ahmed Mohamed of course, I decided to finally put it together.

Once I was done only one small line in the display lit up so I started debugging. I found this thread on the forums that mentioned a possible problem with the older Q3 part which my board has.

I followed the suggestion to jump it to prove that the problem was there.

It was and now my clock works, wooohooo!

I can easily order the suggested part in the thread, however there was another problem with the alignment of the bottom of the case. When I put the screw in one side the other side is not aligned at all. Apologies for this picture as I already tried the jump- but even without that jumper cable it is still misaligned.

Would you have a replacement part for the bottom of the case or can you recommended another case for the clock?

Thanks so much for your help.

If you contact [email protected] with a link to this thread we can send you a new Q3.

Not sure about the case issue. These haven't changed in quite a while, so I'm not sure why yours doesn't fit. Please post a photo showing the whole board and base.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply!

Here's a picture that shows that the bottom plate does not match the front/back plates

It was hard to get one picture at a good angle to show the misalignment of the holes on bottom so here's a short video

Hmmm. I'll check with manufacturing to see if there have been any changes to this part.

flip it around, the text should be visible when you look at the underside of the clock

From the first video in the previous post, it's not just a hole that's misaligned. A normal case bottom has the text "set time" in the upper right corner. On kandizzy's case bottom, only the text "set ti" is visible; the rest is cut off by the edge.

By my eye, the voltage regulator hole seems to be a bit off, and the surrounding text is shifted. It's as if the acrylic slipped during the laser cutting.
