"De-reeling" SMD parts from tape.

Post by george_graves »

What is the best way to get parts off of tape reels/tape segments and into storage bins when you are doing everything by hand?

I was thinking of getting some more 0805 passives, and everyone seems to sell them as tape. Any good trick for going from reel to a container?

(BTW - I don't want to leave it on a strip of tape as it comes - I want it in my bins.)

Here's my trick. I peel off the tape and let the parts fall on to a piece of paper. I then use the paper as a funnel into my container. If you're hand placing these parts, then the time to put them into containers shouldn't be much of an issue.
