34-Pin FPC on 50-pin Adapter

Post by rshusko »

Hey,

I have an OLED display with a 34 Pin .5 mm connection. It came with a FPC type connection that can be surface mounted. I was wondering if I can use this on the Adafruit 50 pin 0.5mm pitch FPC Adapter. I know that some of the pins won't be used but it seems to me that these would be isolated from the system. Also, is there any problems with soldering the board in place assuming I'm aligning the first pin.

Thanks

Robert

If you have a fine-pitch connector, the 50-pin adapter is just the tool for the job. You can use connectors with any number of pins.. the ones that don't get a connection just won't be part of your circuit.

If you want to solder a flat cable to a PCB, the multi-pitch adapter would be a slightly better choice: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1436 It's designed for that job.
