CAN CONDUCTIVE GLUE REPLACE SOLDERING?

Post by Thesquidguy »

Hello, I live in a small house with no room for a soldering station. I was wondering if conductive glue is an effective, fast drying, and substantial alternative for soldering to complete some adafruit projects that require soldering.

If yes then please give me some amazon links to some good conductive glue products.

Thanks,
Squidee

Conductive glue can't really replace solder. It isn't as strong mechanically, and its resistance is much higher.

Hi Squidee. I live in a one bedroom walk-up. My solder station is the bathroom and my workbench is the lid...because that's where the ventilation fan is. (Living alone helps.) TMI? Just throwing out an idea. (c:

You don't really need a station like the $110 Hakko. A quality iron and stand will be fine. Just get a small-enough tip. Adafruit has a couple of irons (one is out of stock). They had a Hakko iron but it's been discontinued: I don't know why. I use a 35-year-old Ungar iron with screw-in heating elements: nice but also discontinued.

We have a couple of adjustable irons in the shop:

You can do most soldering on a placemat at the dinner table, and store all the necessary supplies in a shoebox when you're done. It doesn't require a lot of expensive equipment or space.

You would be surprised what you have room for. I built a little box with dividers and a flip down front for all my junk. When I'm done I just unplug it and put it up.

Nice.. I've seen a couple of similar designs online before, but tools in use are always good to see.

Thanks for posting the photo!
