I purchased a new soldering iron (Hakko FX-888D) for my nine year old daughter's birthday. I wanted her to use lead-free solder and my old cheap soldering iron doesn't have removable tips. The tip included with the Hakko has what I think is technically called "shmutz" on it (photo below), which I assume means it has been "tinned". My question is, do these tips get tinned with solder containing lead, which would sort of start us out on the wrong foot? If they do, can I get untinned/uncontaminated tips?
Thanks,
Gene
