VMonitor - Operating System Problems?

by baumgrenze on Thu Mar 09, 2017 6:23 pm

Hello

Sometime in 2016 i bought an Adafruit USB microscope. I installed the included software. I had no problems until last Tusday when I started having problems booting my Win7/Pro x64 machine. A search revealed this link:

http://www.file.net/process/vmonitor.exe.html

"Description: VMonitor.exe is not essential for Windows and will often cause problems. The file VMonitor.exe is located in a subfolder of "C:\Program Files". Known file sizes on Windows 10/8/7/XP are 135,168 bytes (64% of all occurrences), 143,360 bytes, 114,688 bytes or 245,760 bytes. http://www.file.net/process/vmonitor.exe.html "

User Comments

Seems to install with Veho 'Discovery' USB microscope. Process description is "Monitor Snapshot Button", which is fairly useless anyway. Not needed.

When I unchecked VMonitor from my StartUp most of the problems I encountered disappeared. The details are too complex to outline here.

I wanted you to know about my problem and to ask if you've done anything to repair your reputation.

I thought I'd posted a similar question a day or two ago, but I could not find it here today.

thanks
John

That looks like a case of antivirus protection software being aggressive. That's arguably a good thing for security software to do, but the natural consequence is that you get false positives.

In this case, reading the page linked above shows that the security issue is related to malware which installs itself under the same name, not to the legitimate binary.

Thank you for letting us know about the issue, but we don't have any control over the software, and definitely have no control over the way AV systems rank threats.
