Crimp tool for 1.27mm IDC connectors

Post by AndreaLTT »

I'm looking for a crimp tool for 1.27mm IDC connectors (such as this one http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Har ... JgebBhM%3d), but I haven't found anything reasonably priced (i.e., less than $100). I tried this one from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Accessories-Crim ... B007R2JEM4 but it's too big and doesn't work with 1.27mm connectors. I saw other people on the forum suggesting using a bench vise. Any other suggestions?

A vise is probably your best bet.. something with jaws that remain parallel and close in a controlled way.

Anything in the general family of wide-faced clamps will probably work.. Jorgensen clamps, and maybe a toggle clamp if you find/make one that will apply even pressure all the way across the connector. You could roll your own with a couple of boards to act as a lever if you have access to a woodworking shop.
