Aoyue 968 Hot Air Rework - Mystery Part

by ericzundel on Tue Aug 18, 2009 12:11 am

I just got a new toy today - a SMD rework station - YAY!

This is a very inexpensive station and the Engrish instructions are not all that thorough... like it skips over the part about how to put it together. I was able to find a place for everything but the following part. The cylinder is made of plastic and the fork prongs are thin wire. They gave an extra wire thingy.

My theory is that its to somehow keep your fingers from getting burned, because I did that once already.

Remember - always keep your work area neat!

Turns out that this is a tool for scooping up hot chips while the solder is still wet. The tiny prongs go between the pins to help hold it steady.
