I just received the new Best 102c 60w adjustable soldering iron.
I have found it to be of higher quality than the $10 irons on Ebay and Amazon.
The temperature setting is fairly accurate as I verified with 3 thermometers.
Most other irons with the little dial on the iron put out 150 degrees C more
than is specified by the dial. This leads to dangerous vapors.
The cord also appears to be of silicone and of good quality.
It also comes with a fine tip point that is good for detailed work.
My praise to Adafruit for selecting a quality product.

Re: New Best 102c Soldering Iron Works Well
Great review! Thanks. I am thinking about replacing my 8 well used 937D stations with these. I use them to teach soldering to young people at different locations and transporting the bulky stations is a chore. Do they heat fast and maintain temperature OK? I think I will need some short extension cords to make it to the power strips.

Hi, I bought best-102c. It doesn’t heat to temps labled. I tested with 2 different temperature measuring devices. I also tried to tin the tip with lead free solder. How do I get a replacement. I like the iron, but I have an immediate need. Thx Scott

What temperatures are you getting compared to the values on the readout?

Hi Mike, I turned on iron at 11:40 and tested at 12:05. It is set at 380c. I tested with a infrared thermometer that I use a lot. It read about 30c. Scott

30C is barely above room temperature, and would indicate the heating element is completely dead. Is that correct, or did you have a typo on 300C (or some other value)/

Re: New Best 102c Soldering Iron Works Well
Hi Mike, Yes that is correct. After a half hour being plugged in I tried to melt existing solder on a board I had sitting around. It didn’t melt solder. I then plugged in a old craftsman 45 watt and it worked pretty quick despite being badly oxidized. Is there a phone number I can call during the day? As I mentioned in my original email, there some urgency to get this resolved. Thx Scott

hiya we received the irons. they work well, but they were left on for many many hours or soldered acid-core solder or something because the tips were oxidized and did not conduct heat well.
