DT-9205B+ Crackle and sketchiness

Just got my DT-9205B+ Multimeter and the continuity beeper is very crackly unless you hold your tongue just right and don't move. Seems like there's a bad connection somewhere. I tried replacing the battery as suggested elsewhere in this forum, but nothing changed. I know it's a cheap multimeter, but is it really THAT cheap? I'm hesitant to trust its readings.

That does sound like a marginal connection, but the speaker will be independent of the chip that does the actual measurements.

Try measuring the voltage at the center of a 100k-100k voltage divider between a few reliable voltages.. the 5V and 3.3V pins on a microcontroller, across some AA cells in series, and so on. If those readings are stable, you can probably trust the meter.
