Linear Bearing/Pillow Block

by novotnyeric716 on Tue Feb 12, 2019 1:53 pm

Hello,

I want to build a couple of sliders (rail and pillow block) with stoppers at each end. I am interested in:

Linear Bearing Supported Slide Rail - 12mm wide - 600mm long
PRODUCT ID: 1851

and

12mm Diameter Linear Bearing Pillow Block - SBR12UU
PRODUCT ID: 1183

I have 2 questions about this:

1) In the description for the pillow block, it says it will not come off the rail. How is this the case without a stopper, and if it is not, are there stoppers for sale?

2) Next, also in the description for the pillow block, it says you might need 2 slide rails to keep the pillow block from rotating. What does this mean - 2 rails sharing the pillow block, or one empty rail next to the rail (holding the pillow block) next to it?

Thanks!

1) The bearing wraps 270 degrees around the rail, so it will not detach from the rail radially. But it can slide off the end of the rail if there are no end-stops.
2) Since the rail is round, the bearing block can rotate around it. Most linear motion applications using round rail rely on either a second parallel rail ( and bearing) or a parallel lead-screw & nut to prevent rotation around the rail.
