Atten AT-937 not coming up to set temperature

Hi,
I ordered the AT-937 in May, and received it around May 15 (it shipped on the 12th). I connected the iron to the station, plugged it in, set the temperature knob to 250 C, and turned it on to check the calibration. The light on the station began blinking a few minutes later, indicating that it had reached the desired temperature. However, the IR thermometer I used to check the iron temperature indicated much lower, and never read above around 75 C, regardless of how long I waited, how high I set the temperature, or how I adjusted the calibration screw. I thought it might be an issue with the IR thermometer, but I later checked it with a thermistor and got a similar result, and was unable to tin the tip.
What are my next steps?

same problem with unit purchased in 7/2019. worked fine until now...
