Soldering Iron Tips Not Melting the Solder
I am using a Hakko FX-888D soldering iron. I am having difficulty in getting my iron to melt the solder which includes tinning it. I have the problem with previously used tips and now I am using a new tip. The only way to get the solder to melt is to touch it to a place up from the tip. I am hoping that someone can help me with this issue.

Re: Soldering Iron Tips Not Melting the Solder
A couple things come to mind.
What is the temperature set to? Wortyh asking, but since it melts further up I suspect that's fine.
Have a look at the heating element. Remove the tip and sleeve. Is the end broken off? Or cracked?

Does sound like something maybe internal. Good idea about removing the tip and checking the heating element. Anything obvious there?
