AT-937 soldering iron won't heat properly

Post by ebuddington »

I have the AT-937 soldering station, which worked very well for a couple of months. A few days ago, rather suddenly, it failed to reach full temperature.

Expected behavior: Melts solder (lead-free 97/3) easily with iron set at 360 C, as it used to.

Observed behavior: Can only melt solder when I press it on directly, even when set to max temperature 480 C.
- Heating light pulses normally.

Guesses:
1) poor thermal connection between header and tip (I removed/replaced the tip, which did not help).
1a) the tip can move very slightly in the shaft; perhaps it should be a tighter fit?
2) the thermostat may be malfunctioning.

How can I diagnose/fix this?

Something with the tip would have been my first guess also. But that didn't help.

Please try contacting ATTEN, the manufacturer, directly. See the links at the bottom of the product page here:
