Copper or Aluminum wire?

Post by riogrande »

Hi, have been shopping adafruit for some tools/boards etc. to restock my kit, and I wanted to grab some more general use wire, however, none of the listings on the site specify whether the wire being sold is copper or aluminum? eg: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3111#technical-details

I guess I just have to assume it not being listed means it is cheap aluminum wire?, despite the claims of high quality, and being easy to solder (soldering aluminum is much more of a chore in my experience). I am used to being burned by unclear ebay listings for this kind of thing.

Appreciate if anyone knows what material is used!

I went and stripped sheath off my reels from this set to confirm that it is aluminum.

Thanks for checking! Would be helpful to add to product pages if possible.

Will have to make the most of my remaining radioshack spools until I find another vendor!

its not possible to solder to aluminum wire, and we dont sell any. its tinned copper like almost all hookup wire. untinned copper oxidizes.
