DT-9205B Digital Multimeter problem

Post by davidleejones »

I purchased the Ladyada Toolkit and am just now trying to use the digital multimeter. It seems to be defective. When trying to measure voltage for example, even with leads not touchning anything, the display value floats around randomly. When connected to say a AA battery, it goes to -0.00.

I have tried various settings, @ Volts, 20 Volts etc and nothing works.

My cheap $4 meter from Harbor Freight reads just fine.

The black lead is connected to COM, second from right and the red lead is connected to V, 1st one on right.

Any ideas or do I need to exchange it?

Thanks

David

Try putting a new battery into it. If the behavior remains the same, post back and we'll see what else we can find.

I too have had some problems with either the multimeter or the instructions in the box.

1. I had to discover the on/off button..
2. The continuity check instructions did not seem to agree with the meter. There was no choice on the rotary switch for the alternative listed in the instructions
3. Some functions couldn't be found: frequency, temperature,...

Unfortunately, the companies that make low-cost multimeters aren't very diligent about updating their documentation.
