Which crimp tool?

by Astounding on Fri Jun 12, 2015 11:15 am

I see adafruit sells the PA-09, PA-20, and PA-21 crimp tools from
Engineer. I'm very confused which tool is the proper one for my purposes. I
will mostly be crimping 2.54mm "dupont" breadboard style jumper connectors.
Which tool would do this job well and also have versatility for other connectors? I may be getting into RC in the
near future. I'm also curious if the blue ratcheting style crimpers would
perform better or worse?

What size wire are you using? It's usually easier to convert that to the size of a crimp die.

I'll be using 24 awg wire. Can the PA-09 crimp standard breadboard header pin connectors as well as the ultra mini RC stuff? I was having some trouble understanding the die charts. I'm also not sure what these connectors I'm crimping are officially called. I see them called "dupont" around the web.

The PA-09 is probably the bet match for what you are doing. Most common breadboard jumpers are 22-24 awg, so they can be handled by that crimper also.

I haven't worked with those specific connectors, but based on the dimensions in the drawing, the PA-09 should be the best fit.
