Post by jenkinsAI »

Hello Adafruit :) - The Precision Aluminum USB Microscope PID 1061
Does not work on MacBook Pro running OS X listed below in any app, as the system does not see the camera period.
It does not matter which usb port is used. It works friends MacBook Pro 2009 with BANNED OS X.

OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5
MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012
2.6 Ghz Intel Core i7
Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1024

Please advise or arrange for a RMA.

Let's check the hardware recognition. Open System Information and select the USB pane. Plug in the microscope, hit command-R to re-scan the bus, and see if the scope shows up as a USB device.

It detects - Andonstar Camera:

Product ID: 0x6300
Vendor ID: 0x0c45 (Sonix Technology Co., Ltd.)
Version: 1.00
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Andonstar Camera
Location ID: 0x1d110000 / 6
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 480

It does not work with any Image software on the iMAC including Image Capture (no cameras no scanners). Remember, it works on a older iMAC and my PC at work.

Connect the microscope to your Mac, open Quicktime Player, select "New Movie Recording" under the File menu, then click the arrow just to the right of the record button.

What input sources do you see in the Cameras list?

Yes, twice, so it's highly likely that the hardware is good. That's confirmed by the fact that OS X recognizes the camera at the hardware level. I was checking to see if an Apple-standard application was able to recognize the camera as an input source.

Apparently there's some kind of driver issue in 10.10
