USB microscope died

by mzawrotny_fsu on Thu Feb 11, 2016 2:41 pm

On Jan 28 I purchased the USB microscope (pid 636 order number
1001444-5079073714).

Up until yesterday, it worked flawlessly. Although the LEDs still
light up, the camera interface is no longer recognized by the host
computer. I tried multiple usb ports on three separate computers,
none of which were able to initialize the camera.

More specifically, under linux (ubuntu 14.04 and 15.10 tested), there
is nothing in the output from dmesg indicating that a device was
plugged in, nor does the output from lsusb change.

On the windows side, attempting to load the driver software from
cdrom results in a dialog box that states that there is no compatible
device. Device manager simply shows an "unknown device".

That sounds like a USB failure within the camera.

Send a note to support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread and the folks there will get you a replacement.
