Soldering Construction Question

by j_schultz on Fri Jun 17, 2016 3:20 pm

Hello,

I am using a 3V pro-trinket with the Li-Poly rechargeable backpack. I need to solder a string of LEDs to the 5V pin and the ground pin that the Li-Poly backpack uses as well. What is the best way to make this connection? I am currently using the method described in this tutorial:
https://learn.adafruit.com/crystal-glow ... to-trinket

Is there a more reliable junction I can make or is this fine if the wires don't move?

Thank you.

I need to solder a string of LEDs to the 5V pin

That is not going to work. The 5v pin only has 5v when the backpack is plugged into USB. The tutorial has you connect the +5v pin of the Neopixels to the BAT+ pin of the Trinket. https://learn.adafruit.com/crystal-glow ... -the-board

On the backpack, there are two holes next to the 5v pin that are linked together. These two holes are also connected to BAT+, so they would be an easy place to solder your pixel connections.

Okay thank you.

Secondary question, what is the best way to fasten down a one of the lithium ion batteries. Is hot glue safe to use?

I don't like using hot glue on LiPo cells. double-sided foam mounting tape is my preferred method.
