GPS for Stock Cars

by jamiedixon on Tue Jul 04, 2017 9:10 pm

My son runs a 5/8 size stock car as part of http://www.uslegendcars.com/ here in North Carolina. We want to track his location on the track as precisely and frequently as possible. I looked at the Ultimate GPS module but it look like it only polls every 15 seconds? Can you recommend better hardware? Ideally down to the foot every 1/100 of a second.

Thanks

The light flashes every 15 seconds when it has a fix but you can set it to take a reading 10 times a second if you have a processor that can handle the speed.

It is the fastest available at adafruit. I can't imagine you would need more that 10Hz update rate, and it's very unlikely that you'll find a GPS that can get a +-1 foot precision reading in 1/100th of a second. Maybe with post processing, but it still seems unlikely.
