cut Adafruit DotStar 72 LED Strip 50cm ?

by jmverdi on Sun Nov 12, 2017 8:32 pm

Hi,
I bought from french distributor RS (http://fr.rs-online.com) a few days ago your Adafruit DotStar 72 LED Strip 50cm. It works well.
I would like to cut it into several pieces and put them on the bottom of a 10 cm diameter disc. About 6 or 7 pieces, not necessarily all the same size but roughly. The pieces will be juxtaposed.
Is it possible to cut (to weld marks) this 50 cm strip? Can I connect the four terminals of each chain by welding small wires to connect each band to the next one in series?
TIA
Jean-Marie

Yes, that will work. Just make sure you connect the output of one strip to the input of the next.

Just wondering about direction?
Is this drawing correct?
The arrow on the strip shows the opposite direction where the arduino is connected and it should be from output to input wired.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh yes, you're absolutely right, I did the drawing fast enough, just to make it clear how I was going to organize the strip. But in the end I will observe the direction of the arrows and the correct position of the Arduino.
Thank you for pointing it out
Jean-Marie
