General Inquiry

Post by chimnex »

Hello,

I have been wanting to create a mask for performances, Of the products you have in stock I was thinking of using the "Flexible Adafruit DotStar Matrix 8x8 - 64 RGB LED Pixels". The products size is not exactly what I need, So my first query is can that particular LED be cut down for example to 2"x 1 1/4" ?
I will be using a portable power pack, Im not exactly sure how to calculate the potential autonomy using your recommended 5v 3A usb power pack, Have you any info or advice for me on that?
Considering i want to maximize the colour and depth, can you suggest the optimal "matrix" or trinket that could work best ?

Thank you

Chimnex

No, you can't cut it down. You're probably better off using DotStar strips:

You can cut the strips to size, and solder them together with wires into a matrix of the correct size. So for 2"x1.25"you'd wind up with about 3 strips of 7 pixels each. Solder jumper wires to the ends to connect the three strips in series. A 5V 2A power supply would be plenty.

Can i use Arduino to program those LED

strips? And if yes, what do i need to be able to set that up with Arduino?
