DS18B20 Sensitivity

1) I am wondering how sensitive is the DS18B20 Digital temperature sensor in terms of detecting temperature across a thick surface such as a dry sheet wall, or thick insulation?
2) Can the sensor detect temperature change through regular winter jackets i.e. if sensor is in the jacket's inside pocket, will the sensor be able to read outside ambient temperature? How about the inverse, where sensor is placed against someone's jacket on the outside, can the sensor detect the temperature between the person's body and the jacket?

The sensor will report the actual temperature of the silicon die inside the sensor. It can only measure the ambient temperature or objects that it is in contact with. It can't see through walls or insulating jackets.

I don't know of any sensors that can do exactly what you are looking for. The Melexis IR sensors can measure the heat of something at a distance, but it is optical, so it needs a clear view of the object:
