Limit current flow

Hello,

I am trying to control following motor using DC & Stepper Motor Driver HAT Kit for Raspberry Pi (1.2A per channel and 3A peak current capability)

- Powerful Mabuchi RS-550 DC Motor with 77A stall current , 12V

Will I need to build a current limiting circuit OR add serial register to limit current flow under high load ? Or Is this already taken care of by the DC & Stepper Motor Driver HAT Kit for Raspberry Pi ?

There is no current limiting on the HAT. It does have a thermal protection shutdown circuit. But that doesn't always react quick enough to prevent damage in a severe overload condition.

If this motor has a 77A stall current, chances are its normal operating current is pretty far above the 1.2A continuous rating for the HAT.
