Anemomter

Post by danochicagoevents »

Dear Adafruit, I recently purchased the Anemometer Wind Speed Sensor w/ Analog Voltage Output....Call me stupid, but how do I read the wind speed?? Is there something that should have come with it or that i should have ordered to get some type of read out??

The voltage will be proportional to the wind speed: It will range from 0.4V (0 m/s wind) up to 2.0V (for 32.4m/s wind speed). Most people connect them to an analog pin on an Arduino or similar microcontroller board. From there you can control a display, or send the data to your computer.

What is an Arduino???
An Arduino is a popular microcontroller development board. It is commonly used as a development platform for for small electronics projects.

Like most sensors, it is suitable for use as an input to a controller of some sort. Most people combine these with temperature, humidity and/or barometric sensors to build weather stations, using an Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
