We have six Adafruit 10.1" displays in our exhibition. They were installed a few weeks ago and we are noticing weird behavior in two of them. They are connected to three Raspberry Pi 4s over dual HDMI. When our show powers up in the morning, two of them revert back to VGA input. It's a real pain to get to the button remote inside to toggle it to the proper input - especially every day.
I searched for possible culprits/solutions and found this forum post of similar behavior, but with no resolution:

Additionally, sometimes one of the displays enters a never-ending cycle through the inputs as the LED on the control board flashes:

We tried multiple menu options and different power-up times for the Pi and displays, but it still wants to revert back to VGA. On the displays that work, the monitor will power-up in HDMI mode even when there's no video input, so it seems that the driver board is just not remembering the input setting. Is there a fix for this? Is it possible to get two replacement driver boards?

Are you using the same config.txt on all the units as we know the autodetect is not reliable.
If the above does not help we can swap out driver boards if they were purchased in the last 30-days from us.
Just a side note. Runnging the datasheet through google translate reveals that this display supports HDMI 1.1. The Raspberry Pi 4 supports HDMI 2.0. I'm wondering if adding settings like hdmi_safe=1 or a hdmi_mode value might help force the display into consistent HDMI in case of negotiation failure.

Yes, all three pi installations have mirrored sd cards, but it doesn't seem to be an auto-detect issue. If we disconnect the working monitors from their signal cables, they still retain their HDMI input setting when power cycled, whereas the malfunctioning ones always revert back to VGA input. From what I've read about these monitors is that they don't auto-detect inputs, they should just remember their input setting and the two are not.
When I switch from VGA to HDMI using the control buttons, the screen is fine and happily displaying 1280x800.
We bought these longer than 30 days ago because of how our procurement and installation processes work. Are there other remedies for our situation?

Have you been able to confirm that the problem follows the mini driver HDMI board? Eg. swapping one of the units mini driver + 5 button pad that consistently reverts to VGA with one a 'good' one that consistently stays on HDMI ? Just as a confirmation as to the source of the problem (this would rule out the Pi or 10.1" screen itself as any sort of culprit) if the problem follows the controller board.
We cannot offer replacements for items over the 30-day mark, but I would suggest buying a 3rd party PCB-800099 (mini driver board) which might be $20 if your testing determines that component is the culprit of the VGA setting change.
