Neon-like RGBW strips

by JAG836 on Tue Aug 03, 2021 2:23 pm

Hello,

Is it possible to purchase either the analog (https://www.adafruit.com/product/4549) or neopixel (https://www.adafruit.com/product/4689) neon-like RGBW LED strips in lengths longer than 1m? The datasheets you have on each product page say 1m is standard. However, the manufacturer product pages say 5m is standard:
Analog: https://www.ipixelleds.com/index.php?id=145
Digital: https://www.ipixelleds.com/index.php?id=759

I bought 2 of the analog strips late last year that I was going to join together to use as a light ring around a smart mirror. I am just now getting around to using them but unfortunately I must have damaged the last 2-3" of one of them such that the led(s) in that section don't light up unless they are bent just right. I was hoping I could buy a longer length to replace both of them and avoid joining two or more together, as 2m may be a little short anyways.

5m strips exist, but wouldn’t earn their space in inventory as far as we can tell.

Every square foot of shelf space costs us a certain amount of prorated rent, utilities, etc, so anything we carry has to sell well enough to exceed that cost. Between the physical size of 5m strips, the minimum order quantities from the manufacturers, and the exsting demand for the other sizes, we’d probably lose money storing them long enough to sell an order’s worth.

The numbers come from our business/finance person, who’s frighteningly good at her job. Back when we were approaching our 1 millionth order, we had a betting pool for when it would happen, and stopped taking bets 3 months before the expected time range.

Her guess was off by 4 hours.

Needless to say, we consider her estimates to be pretty darn good.
