Arduino Micro - Nano And Neopixel LED rings (WS2812B)

by noobie on Thu Sep 23, 2021 2:25 am

Hi,
I have 3 Neopixel (WS2812B) LED rings that have 12, 16, and 24 LEDs. If I would try to choose a very small microcontroller;

    1) Would Arduino Nano and Micro meet the timing and RAM requirements of these rings flawlessly?
    2) Do you have any other suggestions besides these two?

Either should work fine what that many pixels for relatively simple applications. I did my original NeoPixel experiments with an original Trinket (with the ATTiny MCU). You're limited in how many pixels you can use since each takes 3 (or 4 is you have RGBW pixels) bytes of RAM and you don't have much.

If you're concerned you can always use a Trinket M0 or a QTPY M0. They're both somewhat physically smaller but in other ways much, much larger. And they give the option of using CircuitPython if you wish. The increased memory and performance mean you can do more with the pixels in terms of animation and effects.
