LED Strip for backlight

by MarkVanHorne on Fri Oct 22, 2021 11:56 am

I'm working on a project where I need backlights for a 3D printed sign with translucent letters. All I want to do is cut a strip of LEDs to length, solder the wires to a 9 volt jack, and have the user plug in a 9V wall wart. Can I use these lights for this purpose? https://www.adafruit.com/product/4612

I don't want to use a microcontroller or any other circuitry.

Yes. Those will work. No microcontroller required. With a 12v supply they will be a bit brighter than with 9v.

Thanks. I will buy them.

Do I need to add a current limiting resistor, or is one built into the strip?

Current limiting is built into the strips. You just need to supply them with 9v-12v DC.

You will need a power supply with at least 1A per meter of strip.
