Bright LED options for Outdoor Wearable

Post by ben3 »

Hi,

I'm working on a wearable for outdoor use in the dark. I'm not sure which lights are the best option, but have been looking at NeoPixel Rings or strips. The light needs to be close to 200 lumens at the minimum, similar to headlamps. The project will integrate multiple lights, at least two to start, so the lumens could be split between lights. What are the brightest lights that can easily be integrated into a wearable?

Our rough estimate is 1.5 lumens per NeoPixel so 200 lumens would be 133 NeoPixels.

The Ultra Bright 3W/4W chainable NeoPixel can produce up to 175 lumens so that would be the fastest way to get the brightness you need.

Our sheets of NeoPixels are really ideal for wearables, but they require a lot of connections.

You could use a bunch of 24 pixel rings or even consider a NeoMatrix.

The NeoPixel strips can be used with wearables as long as you keep them away from flexible joints (elbows, knees, etc.). The strips can't take that type of sharp bending and flexing.
