My python3 test can't find display

by RonVA on Sun Aug 06, 2017 10:16 pm

I'm trying to run a python3 test on my pi3 with the 2.8 inch piTFT. The display works and passes all the calibration tests (except for xinput, but that's a different issue). When I attempt any graphic output using tkinter I get this message:

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
_tkinter.TclError: no display name and no $DISPLAY environment variable

How can I either specify -display before starting the test, or preferably correctly set the $DISPLAY environmental variable permanently?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have spent an embarrassing length of time on this without any success.

I finally found a solution to the display issue.
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
PLATFORM=linuxfb:fb=/dev/fb1
export PLATFORM
DISPLAY=:0
export DISPLAY

Test now runs and works with both an external mouse and keyboard. NOW on to my resistive touch calibration not seeming to work correctly with Xwindow.
