The 2.8" PiTFT Capacitive Screen (No. 2423) has a separate set of 40 male GPIO pins next to the female header. What I was wondering, is it possible to connect the screen to a Raspberry Pi 3 by running wires from the male pins on the screen to the appropriate GPIOs on the Raspberry Pi ( I2C Pins (SDA & SCL), SPI pins (SCK, MOSI, MISO, CE0), GPIO #25 and #24, and the 4 pins for the buttons)?
I know I could run wires from the female header on the screen to the male pins on the Pi, but I am trying to make as thin a setup as possible, so I would like to avoid having to use the female header on the screen.
Thanks!

Yes. The second header mirrors the first 26 pins on the standard Pi GPIO pinout
