LPD8806 vs Dotstar

by Floris on Sat Aug 12, 2017 5:23 pm

Hi,

I was wondering what the main differences are between
https://www.adafruit.com/product/306
and
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2237

if I understand correctly, both are programmable over SPI, so I could you a raspberry for this.
And the LPD8806 has 2 more led/m then the Dotstar 30 but the price difference is 10 dollar more per meter.
Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for the info!

The LPD8806 is an older technology strip. It is 21 bits per pixel vs the 24 bits per pixel of the DotStars. The DotStars are also faster. For new projects, the DotStars are the way to go.
